Michael Bondi

Biography

Mike (St. Edward Class of 1996) was a four year varsity wrestler and two time state champion during his Green Wave wrestling career.  As a freshman, competing in the 103 pound weight class, Bondi compiled a record of 41 wins and 3 losses.  He set the school record for victories in a season and was the team’s “Most Valuable Wrestler.”  Mike won regional and sectional titles on his way to becoming the state champion.  The Northwest Daily Herald named him “Wrestler of the Year.”  As a sophomore, Bondi wrestled in the 112 pound weight class and had a record of 22 wins and 6 losses.  The following year, Mike won regional and sectional championships in the 130 pound weight class on his way to the state finals, finishing with 31 wins and two losses.  Early in his senior season, Mike sustained a torn ACL, but forged on to again become the regional and sectional champion, ultimately winning the state championship in the 140 pound weight class with a record of 20 wins and 1 loss.  He was selected Co-MVP of the wrestling team, named Northwest Daily Herald “Wrestler of the Year” and was a Class A finalist for the Illinois Wrestling Coaches’ and Officials’ Association “Outstanding Wrestler of the Year.”
