Terry Drake

Biography

Terry was a three-year varsity basketball player for Elgin High School.  While on the varsity, the Maroons posted a 57-12 record, highlighted by a 27-2 record in the 1972-1973 season, and appeared in the Elite Eight and the Sweet Sixteen twice.  During his senior season at Elgin High (1973-1974), he led the team in scoring (22 ppg) and rebounding (15 rpg).  Terry had a career high 33 points in one game and ranks in the Top 10 in scoring all-time in Elgin High history with 1,029 points.  Drake graduated as the all-time leading rebounder in Elgin High history and set the single-season record of 425 rebounds his senior year.  He was named to the Upstate Eight All Conference team, the Chicago Daily News All-Area team, and the Champaign News-Gazette All-State team.  Street & Smith Magazine named him third team All-American.  Drake was the inaugural winner of the Courier News Player of the Year Award in 1974.  He lettered three years at the University of Iowa (1975, 77, 78) scoring 341 career points.
