Bob was a football and track coach at Elgin High School. He served as head football coach from 1957—61 with a record of 24 wins, 20 losses, and 1 tie. His 1958 team was undefeated and Big "8" champions. Bob was also head track coach from 1957—1976 (186 wins - 108 losses). His 1963 and 1974 teams were Conference Champions, and four teams won Kane County titles in 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1974. He sent 76 qualifiers to the State Track Meet with 8 placing, including two State Champions. "Duff" was an All—State football player at Princeton (IL) High School in 1939. He was a four—year starter at Northern Illinois University and was named Most Valuable and All—Conference in 1942 and captain and All—Conference in 1946. He served in the 20th Air Force in India, China and the Western pacific from 1943—45. Bob was inducted into the Northern Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
