Emery Ebbert

Inducted 1984


Emery Ebbert was one of the most successful of all Elgin High School football coaches. During his ten year period, 1947—56, his teams won 65, lost 24, and tied 3. The Maroons won conference titles outright in 1950 and 1955 and shared the Big Eight Championship in 1953. Five of his players were named to All—State teams. Prior to Elgin, Ebbert was varsity end at University of Illinois and coached at Cerro Gordo and Marengo High Schools. He moved on to be Coordinator of Athletics and Physical Education at Proviso Township High Schools from 1957—73. He was elected to the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame 1980.
