Biography

This St. Edward graduate was a varsity starter in football in 1975 and 1976 earning All—Conference and Special Mention All—State honors his senior season. He also played varsity basketball (1975-1977) earning All—Conference and Special Mention All—State honors his senior year when he led the league in scoring.

Jim went on to play football at Northern Illinois University (1977—1980) where he was a four-year starter as a punter. He also started at tight end in 1978 and 1979 and at offensive tackle in 1980. As a punter he was All Mid-American Conference first team in 1978 and All-MAC second team in 1979 and 1980. In his senior year, he also earned All-MAC second team as an offensive tackle. Jim holds the NIU record for best season average per punt (4O.1 yards in 1978) and the top two marks for best one-game punting average. He was the NIU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1980.

Jim joined the National Football League in 1981 when he was drafted in the ninth round by the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a member of the Bengals' 1982 Super Bowl team.
