Steve Hinton

Elgin High School Class of 1988


Steve is a 1988 graduate of Elgin High and is nominated for baseball. At Elgin, Hinton was a unanimous All-Upstate Eight Conference selection three straight seasons and a three-time Courier News All-Area selection, including co-Player of the Year in 1988. He was drafted by the New York Mets his senior year, but opted to attend college. Hinton received a baseball scholarship to attend Creighton University, where he played outfield for three seasons. In 1991, he set Creighton single-season records for most RBIs (90) and most at-bats (278) and helped lead Creighton to the 1991 College World Series. He was named to the All-CWS team and was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament team and the All-NCAA Central Regional team in 1990 and All-MVC first team in 1991. Steve was then drafted by the Kansas City Royals and went on to play three years of minor league ball and led the Appleton Foxes of the Midwest League in RBIs with 63 in 1992.
