Bill coached at Larkin High School for 19 years. He was an assistant football coach and head track coach. In track, he led Larkin to 6 Kane County Championships, two district championships and two Upstate Eight championships. He qualified a total of 32 relay teams for the state meet during his career, one of which placed fifth in 1979 and one which placed sixth in 1967. He also coached two state medalists (Mike Coyle who placed fourth in the 1967 440-yard dash and Ben App who was third in the 440 in 1971). He assisted on five football conference champions. A graduate of Cornell (Iowa) College, he participated in football (captain) and track.
