John F. "Jack" Meagher
Elgin High School Class of 1914
John F. "Jack" Meagher captained the Elgin High School football team in 1913 and he was the mainstay on the 1914 team that complied a 5-1 record. After EHS, he played under the legendary Knute Rockne at Notre Dame University. He followed that with a career as a college football coach, compiling a 96-83-14 record at St. Edward, Rice and Auburn. At Auburn from 1934-1942, his teams were 48-37-10. The 1937 squad beat Michigan State in the Orange Bowl, 6-0.
