Biography

Nominated as a coach and administrator, Jim was St Edward's athletic director from 1972 until 1991, overseeing an athletic program that grew from six interscholastic sports to 17 programs in that time. It also included much success as the Green Wave won two state team titles and two individual state championships. Perkins was also instrumental in the growth of the funding for the booster club, which directly supported the athletic program. As golf coach, Perkins led St. Edward to the 1981 state Class A title, runner-up finishes in 1979 and 1983 and third place finishes in 1977 and 1978. The Wave finished in the top 10 in the state nine times under Perkins and six times finished in the top five. Perkins also coached at Streamwood and Bartlett. He is the 1992 inductee of the Illinois Golf Coaches Hall of Fame and a 2000 inductee of the St. Edward Hall of Fame.
