Marcus Smallwood

Biography

Marcus is inducted for basketball. A three year starter for the Elgin varsity basketball team.  He was a three time All-Conference First Team selection, as well as being named to the Daily Herald and Elgin Courier News All-Area teams three times.  As a sophomore, Smallwood started on the 1998 EHS Elite 8 team that finished with a school record 31 wins.  After his senior year, Marcus was named Upstate Eight Conference Player of the Year for leading the conference in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.  He averaged 19 points and 11.2 rebounds per game that season and was the MVP of the 2000 3A/4A IBCA All-Star Game of the North Team.  Smallwood finished his Elgin career as the school’s all-time leading shot blocker and 7th leading scorer with 1201 points.  At Northern Illinois University, Marcus led the Huskies in blocks as a freshman and field goal percentage and blocks during his sophomore year while being a part time starter.  In his junior season he averaged 13.3 points and 10.1 rebounds as a starter and was named Mid-American All-Conference 1st Team.  In his final season, he averaged 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds as he led the conference in rebounding and made the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team.  Marcus is still ranked in the Top 20 All-Time for the conference in field goal percentage, total rebounds and blocked shots.  Smallwood played 10 seasons professionally, most of which were in Europe.  He was named Forward of the Year in 2009-2010 by eurobasket.com
