Phil Sokody

Elgin High School


Phil, an Elgin High School graduate, was a member of the 1956-57 basketball team that was undefeated during the regular season and played in the state quarterfinals.

Following his career at Elgin High School, Phil continued playing at Lake Forest College where he captained the Foresters his unior and senior seasons and was awarded team MVP his senior year. He averaged 17.4 points pergame with 1,023 career points and was an All-Conference of Illinois First-Team selection for two years. In 1995 he was inducted into the Lake Forest College Ahtletic Hall of Fame.

Phil is the son of Paul Sokody, a 1985 Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Inductee.

As development director for Westminister Christian School in Elgin, Phil was instrumental in bringing the school's first athletic facility to the high school campus in 2001. Following his passing that year the school named the private official's locker room in his honor.
