Dave St. John

Inducted 2019

Elgin High School


Dave St. John is inducted as a Friend of Sports.  Dave has been an avid sports enthusiast and follower of local sports since his high school days as an athlete at EHS.  Beginning in the 1960’s, St. John has been active in many facets of sports in Elgin.  He was commissioner of the Illinois State Semi-Pro Baseball Tournament in 1963, coached little league and umpired at all levels of baseball in Elgin for 20 years, served as president of Classic Little League and player agent for both Continental Little League and the Elgin Teener League, and also coached Pee Wee football.  Dave has supported high school sports and athletes by attending local football, baseball, softball, and boys and girls basketball games during the regular season and tournaments.  In addition, he annually attends high school awards programs and banquets and presents scholarships to local high school student/athletes.  Dave has attended almost every Illinois High School state basketball tournament since 1953.  Also, Dave has been on the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors as of 1997 and served as the organization’s treasurer.  In 1988, he was named Larkin High School Super Fan, has been the recipient of the ESHOF’s Vic Masi Service Award, and been recognized by Larkin and Elgin High School for his years of support.  St. John was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame as a Friend of high school basketball in 2005.
