Dick Stephens

Inducted for coaching. Stephens served two separate nine-year stints as Elgin High School's football coach, posting an 18-year record of 90-80-2, which included six losses by forfeit due to teacher strikes. The 90 wins is the most for any coach in Elgin High history. His 1977 team posted the most wins in a season in school history before losing in the state quarterfinals and finishing 10-1. Stephens coached three Upstate Eight Conference champions, including a 1976 team that shared the title. Elgin made five postseason appearances under Stephens, posting a 4-5 record. The four victories are the most for any coach in the city of Elgin. Stephens also became the first head coach for the new Bartlett High School. In five varsity seasons, the first one playing with no seniors, Stephens posted a 27-22 record. His last three years, Bartlett teams went 20-11 and qualified for the state playoffs three times.
