Jim Stowell

Elgin High School Class of 1954

Biography

Jim lettered three years each in Honorable mention football, basketball, and track at Elgin High School. He was named All-Conference and All-State in football in 1953 and the same year played in the Sweet Sixteen cage finals. His senior year in 1954 he received an All-Big Eight Honorable Mention in basketball, was a discus qualifier for the state track meet, and was selected Elgin High's Athlete of the Year. He attended Knox College where he lettered three years each in football, basketball, and track. He was football All-Conference in 1956, and co-captain in 1957. The Chemical & Engineering News also selected Jim as an Academic All-American. He was named tight end on the Knox College All-Decade team and was elected to the Knox College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1999 he was among 125 players honored as Knox College Men's Basketball Players of the Century.
