Bob Thoren

Elgin High School Class of 1942


An outstanding golfer, Bob began his career at Elgin High School in 1940 and finished in 1942. In his senior year he captained the Maroon team that won the Conference Championship and was Individual Conference Champion (75 avg.). He played on the South Carolina University golf team (1947—50). Bob won the South Carolina Intercolligiate Championship in 1948. He set the Forest Lake South Carolina Country Club record (65) in 1950. He was also Elgin City Golf Champion six times (1948,49,51,63,64,65). In addition, Thoren was Elgin Country Club Champion 13 times and set their course record (65) until Hall of Famer Bill Hoffer bested it. Bob has shot three hole—in ones.
