Ralph "Gus" Vaughan

Biography

Gus, who is inducted into the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame as an all-around athlete, graduated from Elgin High in 1964. At Elgin, he excelled in football and baseball. As a senior, Vaughan was a unanimous All-Conference selection and was named to the Chicago Tribune All-Star High School Football Team in 1963. In baseball, he played on the 1964 conference championship team and was selected to the 1964 All-Conference Upstate Eight baseball team. Vaughan then played football and baseball at Carthage College, where he was a CCIW All-Conference football player in 1967 and on the All-Conference baseball team in 1968. Gus played on many City of Elgin championship softball teams beginning in the early 1970's. In addition, he has played on eight national and world championship teams, as well as numerous regional championship teams. Gus was selected to the Softball Players Association All-American Team in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was also named to the Senior Softball USA All-World Team in 2002 and to the international Senior Softball All-World Team in 2005.
