Elgin High School Class of 1950
This native Elginite earned 10 letters in baseball, basketball, and football during his three years at Elgin High School. Ron was the only starting junior on the EHS basketball team that won the conference title and reached the state finals in 1949, and the only returning regular on the 1950 squad that repeated as Big Eight champions and then placed third in the state tournament. In 1950 Ron pitched the Maroons' baseball team to third place in the state. While at the University of Wisconsin from 1950—54, he had the distinction of being the shortest cager (5 feet, 8 inches) in the Big Ten Conference; yet the highly mobile guard earned Honorable Mention All—America honors his senior year. In a 1969 poll conducted by the Elgin Daily Courier—News, he was selected as one of Elgin High School's all—time best quarterbacks.
