Jeff Wilkins

Wilkins was the leading scorer on the outstanding Elgin High School basketball team that made the Elite Eight in 1973. He averaged 17.8 points per game (498 points in 28 games) when the team went 27-2. He went on to star at Illinois State University, where he scored 22 points on January 24, 1977, to help the Redbirds beat Indiana State and Larry Bird 70-64. A 1982 inductee of the Redbirds Athletic Hall of Fame, Wilkins currently is number 12 all-time scoring and number 6 all-time rebounding at ISU. He was captain, leading scorer, and rebounder of the 1976-77 team which ended its season in the quarterfinals of the NIT in Madison Square Garden in New York. He holds the record at ISU for highest blocked-shot average for a season (3.6 a game). His 103 blocks in 1976-77 ranks fourth all-time in career blocks, and he ranks second all-time in career double-doubles with 42. Wilkins went on to play in the NBA six seasons, mainly as a part-time starter and reserve. He played in 454 NBA games for the Utah Jazz, averaging 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds. His best season was 1982-83 when he averaged 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in 81 games. He had 77 blocked shots in 82 games in 1981-82 when he averaged 9.3 points and 7.5 boards a game.
