Where Are They Now?

Whenever possible, the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame will be sharing the continued stories of our inductees and award recipients. Do you have a story we need to tell? Reach out!

With Super Bowl LVII in the rearview, it seems like the perfect time to tell the story of 2017 ESHOF inductee, Dave Huxtable. Before we dive into what Dave is up to these days, let’s highlight his local accomplishments:

David Huxtable, a 1975 graduate of Larkin High, is inducted for coaching. David, a three-sport performer at Larkin, is a candidate for serving as a college football coach since 1982. During that time, Huxtable has coached linebackers, special teams and served as defensive coordinator for numerous major college programs, including Georgia Tech, East Carolina, North Carolina, Central Florida, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina State. He has coached defenses in several bowl games, including the Rose Bowl with Big 10 champion Wisconsin (2012), the Liberty Bowl (twice) and the Peach Bowl (twice). Dave was named National Linebackers Coach of the Year by Football Scoop in 2011.

Where is Coach Dave Huxtable? He’s with the Atlanta Falcons!

The Atlanta Falcons announced they have hired Larkin High School grad, Dave Huxtable, as a senior defensive assistant coach. Huxtable likely made an impression on Falcon’s Defensive Coordinator, Ryan Nielsen, at NC State where Nielsen was Huxtable’s Defensive Line Coach.

“The hyper-experienced 66-year-old had spent his entire career in college but has been a defensive coordinator at a half-dozen stops, including stints with Pittsburgh, North Carolina State, North Carolina, and the University of Central Florida. This is his first stint in the NFL, but he’s been coaching defense for four decades now.”-D. Choate
